On October 26^th and 27^th 2024, our partner Ms. Maisy Ling participated in the 136^th  China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) “Guangzhou Foreign-related Legal Consulting Service Hub”  organized by the Guangzhou Justice Bureau. This marks Maisy’s third involvement in this legal consultation service in the past two years.

The legal consultation services involved 4 main service: Lawyer Service, notary consultation, mediation consultation and Law ascertainment, which gathered numerous experts familiar with foreign-related laws to provide legal services.

Maisy Ling:

“What impressed me the most was a businessman from Dubai who was troubled by a contract dispute. He had made a payment but hadn’t received the goods. Even they have reached a settlement agreement, he was unable to get a refund. We  analyzed this complex situation and provided practical suggestions immediately. The businessman expressed his appreciation and gratitude for our prompt response and professional expertise, which made us very appreciated.”

hrough the inquiries we received from the visiting clients, we can sense that the legal awareness of both domestic and foreign businesses is significantly increasing. For instance, many foreign merchants came to ask how to verify the qualifications and credibility of Chinese companies. We assisted them on-site with the business information search app and provided initial advice. It is evident that preventing and resolving risks before transactions is a key concern for foreign businesses.

Despite dealing with such large volume of inquiries is a hard work, each time when I received their positive feedback and praise, it filled me with sense of achievement. As legal professionals, we take pride in applying our expertise and are honored to contribute to our country's import and export trade.

The establishment of the Guangzhou Foreign-Related Legal Consultation Service Hub not only further optimizes the business environment in Guangzhou but also provides strong support for Chinese companies to ‘go global’ and for foreign companies to ‘come in.’ Through this legal consultation service, we gained deeper insights into the main issues facing foreign merchants and Chinese enterprises, and we also sensed the tremendous potential for trade development in the Greater Bay Area and the continued positive trajectory of international trade.
